Travel Disappointments-Rome Edition

So…I have been gone. Now, I am incredibly sorry but the last month (and these next four-ish to come) are probably the busiest of my life. Forget having time to blog, I don’t have time to breathe. BUT, I am asking y’all to be a little patient. I am TRYING MY BEST and WILL get more  regular. I just need to time to get my bearings.

I talk about the not-so-fun side of traveling all the time. I have talked about being overwhelmed and underwhelmed. I have talked about  disappointments left and right. Now, that I am on my soap box I would like to talk about the biggest disappointment of my time in Rome (drum roll please). I was not able to see the villa borghese. It was probably no.1 on my list. As you may or may not remember, I am a die-hard Bernini fan. The Villa Borghese was something that haunted my dreams and something I needed to do. I needed to stand in front of Bernini statue and cry my heart out. Now I am actually playing on a technicality here. Villa Borghese is the whole park (which obviously one doesn’t need a ticket to see), but the museum is housed in the Villa Borghese that the park is named after. So I did in fact see Villa Borghese…or did I? This is tops my most confusing posts ever. But, basically I saw the park, and despite being rather upset (more upset than I have ever been about missing any destination in my life), the park was gorgeous and nothing short of enjoyable. One day, when I have more time (and when it’s warmer) I would like the come see the museum and simply ride up and down in this quiet leafy abode.  Here are the pictures from the far to short hour I spent in the park.

It’s a great place to rent a bike and take round….or if you are a little for daring and want to try something that is interesting (read: embarrassing), you can ride one of these:IMG_1793

Logistics:

  • I have heard that the Villa Borghese (or the Borghese Gallery, whichever you prefer) is amazing (sadly, I don’t know as I have not visited) so book a ticket ahead of time. Here’s the website: http://www.galleriaborghese.it/prenota-en.htm
  • I found the information on this website‘s “getting there” section most useful
  • Even the park is a great break from a busy day in Rome
